Bo Diddley dies aged 79

The musician Bo Diddley died yesterday at his home in Florida aged 79. A spokeswoman for the legendary guitarist and singer said that he died of heart failure.

Diddley, real name Otha Ellas Bates, was born in McComb, Mississippi in 1928. He rose to fame in 1955 with the song 'Bo Diddley' and also had chart success with the songs 'Who Do You Love', 'Before You Accuse Me' and 'Mona'.

Famous for his homemade square guitar, black hat and dark glasses Diddley's signature bomp ba-bomp bomp bomp bomp beat influenced musicians across different generations from Buddy Holly, the Rolling Stones to Bruce Springsteen.
