Bieber says he was approached for Fifty Shades Of Grey
It must be the worst case of miscasting since Arnold Schwarzenegger was asked to play Mr Darcy in Pride And Extreme Prejudice. Justin Bieber has let slip that he has been asked to star in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades Of Grey.
The central character Christian Grey is a kind of designer Marquis De Sade who reads GQ. It would seem far-fetched for even the dumbest casting agent to consider the clean cut pop singer. "They actually want me to be in the movie!" Bieber told Jonathan Ross, although he then claimed to have been kidding, after Ross had suggested that Bieber’s fans might have been inspired by the novel.
Producers are keen to develop an adaptation of the book while it is still a hot property. The novel has sold over five million copies in the UK alone, the biggest-seller of all time.
Universal Pictures and Focus Features bought the rights to the book in May, but have so far been unable to confirm a director or writer for the adaptation. Rumours have been rife about potential cast members, with names linked to the project including Ryan Gosling, Channing Tatum, Ian Somerhalder and Alexander Skarsgård from True Blood. Any one of whom would make a more realistic option than Bieber.
Bieber’s acting opportunities are more likely to remain restricted to his upcoming appearance in The Simpsons. "He tries to get into a talent show that Bart is playing piano in and they won't admit him," Simpsons producer Al Jean said. "Draw your own conclusions."
