Ben Fogle spiked with LSD?

OK let’s try a little experiment and put Ben Fogle and LSD in the same sentence. The mind boggles doesn’t it? Mr Normal, Mr Middle England – a man who probably thinks a rave party is a soiree held by a literary group of friends to celebrate a complimentary review of their latest anthology of gardening poems.

Well – in a story that might be funny if it wasn’t so serious, Ben Fogle was hospitalized for a 'psychotic episode' after his drink was apparently spiked with LSD.

The adventurer and purveyor of quaint blandness to the Daily Mail readership said that he had a “full-on psychotic episode” and had to be locked in a room by his wife Marina until an ambulance arrived. The father-of-two believes someone may have slipped a hallucinogenic drug into his drink while he was in a Gloucestershire country pub last Friday.

To be honest – country pubs in Gloucestershire aren’t known as being a hotbed of psychedelic activity and one does have to wonder if he just underwent a naturally occurring lapse into psychosis and blamed it on LSD in a bid to rationalise and explain it.

He was taken to hospital, but doctors were unable to find the cause of the problem. This could point to the colourless, odourless LSD which leaves no trace in the body after a few hours – or it could point to an organic psychological problem.

In an interview with the Daily Mail Fogle said: "I don’t like using the word, but I was acting like a stereotypical madman, I thought I was doomed, I thought I was going to die.

“My wife and friends kept trying to calm me down as I was threatening to hurt myself. I was 100 per cent out of my normal character.” He added: “It was like having an out of body experience. I started doing very strange walks, like the Ministry of Funny Walks”

Whatever anyone’s view of Ben Fogle or of LSD – there is never any excuse for spiking someone with a powerful psychotropic substance. If it is true – it is an absolute disgrace.
