Aretha’s ego has landed

As Beyonce Knowles introduced Tina Turner at the Grammys last week, everyone in the audience was thrilled to see the legendary singer take command of the stage for the first time in years – all except for one person.

Singer Aretha Franklin, often dubbed the Queen of Soul, was not happy when Beyonce introduced Tina Turner as “the Queen”. Miss Franklin told press after the ceremony, "I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce. However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy."

Aretha, the only controversy is now what you have caused and as for the bruised ego, we don’t think it was the Grammy writers’ or Beyonce’s.

Beyonce’s father, Mathew Knowles said about the whole kerfuffle, “Something this ridiculous – it’s childish, it’s unprofessional. And it’s a sad day when egos get bruised because somebody used the word king, queen, prince or princess.”

Aretha, we have to agree with Mr Knowles. We think you’re being a bit silly – you may be the Queen of Soul, but Tina is regarded as the Queen of Rock ‘n’ roll. Next you’ll be having a go at Madonna the Queen of Pop and – oh what’s her name – Elizabeth II, the Queen of England…
