Amy Winehouse hologram for X Factor?
X Factor bosses, including Simon Cowell, are planning to revive the tired talent show by using holograms of deceased superstars in the next series. Contestants will have the chance to duet with the likes of Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse.
An insider told The Sun that the next series could have a radically new look. X Factor executive Richard Holloway, who apparently has pretty middle-of-the–road tastes in music, went to a Celine Dion show, and was impressed by seeing her duetting with a hologram of a star who happens to be very much alive, Stevie Wonder.
"They are looking at holograms as a way of creating a splash," the source said. "Imagine Elvis or Amy Winehouse at the grand final. It would be incredible TV and an amazing experience for contestants. The technology's there and has been used on several big stages. The X Factor final is perfect for something like this."
A dip in the ratings and criticism of the judging panel had reportedly made Cowell dubious about the X Factor’s future. He was also said to be unenthusiastic about flying back regularly from his US base to appear on the UK editions. ITV chiefs were also wary about becoming too reliant on the format, and by implication, too closely linked with Cowell’s Syco corporation. The hologram idea may be what is needed to revive the format.
Auditions for the new series have begun, with Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger joining the judging panel after replacing former Destiny Child's star Kelly Rowland.
