'Amy had started to conquer her demons'

Amy Winehouse's funeral took place yesterday in north London, drawing a crowd of celebrity friends and family. At the emotional service, Amy's father, Mitch Winehouse told the congregation that in the weeks leading up to her death, Amy had started to conquer her addiction to drugs and alcohol.

According to The Daily Mail, Amy's father told the audience, 'She was trying hard to deal with her drinking and had just completed three weeks of abstinence. She said, 'Dad, I've had enough of drinking. I can't stand the look on your and the family's faces any more'. But knowing she wasn't depressed, knowing she passed away, knowing she passed away happy, it makes us all feel better.'

Mitch told the congregation that he planned to establish a foundation in the singer's memory, in order to help those struggling with alcohol and drug addiction find treatment and therapy.
