Alesha to replace Arlene on Strictly

Changes are afoot on Strictly Come Dancing with the news that former champion Alesha Dixon will replace Arlene Phillips on the hit show's judging panel this autumn. In a further snub to Phillips the BBC also announced that another judge, former ballet star Darcey Bussell, will join the judging panel for the last three weeks of the competition.

Alesha spoke about the chance to join up with Craig Revill-Horwood, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli on the judging panel: "I'm honoured and excited to be joining the judging panel. I've always felt like part of the Strictly family and really believe in the show."

Phillips will instead join The One Show as the program's Strictly Come Dancing expert during the 14-week show. "I am delighted to be part of The One Show, she said. 'I will miss Strictly. It has been a big part of my life for six years."

According to the Daily Moan the Beeb made the decision to draft Alesha onto the judging panel in an attempt to challenge the Cheryl Cole effect on rival show the X Factor.
