12 million viewers tune in to discover Lucy Beale's killer on Eastenders

BBC saw a record number of viewers tune in to last night's Eastenders episode to finally learn who killed Lucy. After 10 months of waiting, a flashback to the night of the murder showed everybody that Lucy's half brother Bobby was the person responsible for one of the biggest cliffhangers in British TV history.

Bobby, played by actor Elliot Carrington, was seen telling Jane Beale "Whatever she says, she started it. She made everyone unhappy!" next to the body of Lucy after it appears he dealt her her a fatal blow to the head. Carrington revealed that he himself only learned of his responsibility on Monday this week ahead of filming his scenes and he was sworn to secrecy lest he spoil what has been a mammoth mystery since the middle of last year.

The BBC reported that the broadcasting company received a small number of complaints from viewers claiming that they had been misled over the identity of Lucy's killer for the past 10 months. Viewers tonight will be treated to a bit more explanation with in depth details set to be revealed about how Jane managed to cover up the murder for so long.

It also transpired that viewers were highly active on Twitter while the two episodes unfolded as more than 1 million Tweets relating to the show were sent. In the aftermath of the big reveal, close to 50,000 tweets were made within the space of a single minute showing just how gripped the nation was.

In a huge coincidence, a lady from California named Bobbie Beale was a little bit freaked out on Twitter when a number of people tweeted her about murdering Lucy. Not knowing the first thing about the BBC show, she tweeted "Why are 3 people from Scotland that I don't know, tweeting me about killing someone named Lucy..." which received a staggering 25,000 retweets. Bobbie then googled Eastenders and returned with a tongue in cheek selfie accompanied by #IdidntkillLucy.
